Design Works Bespoke brings together our own microcement and liquid metal work — freestanding baths, basins, worktops, walls, tables and furniture, each piece pigmented or patinated and finished by hand — alongside a small range of solid surface baths cast and pigmented to order.
What we make
Freestanding baths and basins, kitchen and bathroom worktops, islands and bar tops, splashbacks and full wall finishes, dining tables, benches, vanity units and fitted furniture. We can supply a piece from scratch or refinish something you already own — an existing bath, an island, a tired worktop.
Solid surface appears here in two ways. The Garda bath is a solid surface piece in its own right, cast and pigmented to order. Elsewhere, as in our freestanding basins, solid surface is the core beneath a hand-applied finish.
Why microcement
Applied at two to three millimetres over a prepared substrate, microcement gives a seamless surface with no joints and no grout lines, wrapping curves that tile simply can't follow. Because every square metre is trowelled by hand, the depth and movement in the finish is real rather than printed, and it is fully waterproof once sealed — suitable for wet areas, worktops and outdoor use.
Liquid metal worktops and surfaces
We also work in liquid metal — real metal applied by hand over a microcement base, then burnished or oxidised to finish. It is the same technique behind our bespoke tables and benches, and it suits kitchen worktops, islands, bar tops, splashbacks, vanity tops and wall panels equally well.
Two finishes are available. Oxidart uses liquid iron, copper and bronze, oxidised by hand to draw rich natural patinas out of the metal itself. Leopard Brass is a liquid brass coating, blackened and browned into a distinct leopard pattern. Because it is applied rather than cast, the surface wraps curves and returns without a visible joint and without the weight of solid metal. Worktops are templated and quoted individually.
Freestanding basins
Our freestanding basins start as a cast solid surface core, coated in microcement and then worked over by hand — trowelled in layers, cut back, and waxed or burnished to finish. The result reads as a piece of furniture rather than sanitaryware, designed to be seen from every side and colour matched to the rest of the room.
The Microcement Freestanding Basin in Bronce is a 440mm cylinder standing 870mm high, finished in textured Marmorino plaster and burnished with bronze metallic waxes over a matt black bowl. It is supplied without tap holes for wall-mounted or floor-standing taps, and made to order in four to six weeks. Alternative colourways and texture depths can be specified.
Colour matched to your scheme
Microcement colour is pigmented to order and matched to your floor, your walls and the rest of the room — from chalk and bone through clay, taupe and charcoal. No two pieces we make are ever the same, which is rather the point of bespoke.
Who we work with
We work with homeowners, interior designers, architects and developers, on single statement pieces and full specifications alike. Everything is made to order in our own workshop in Newcastle-under-Lyme, near Stoke-on-Trent. Lead times and pricing depend on size, substrate and finish, so every project is quoted individually.
Made to order
Everything on this page is made specifically for you, in your chosen finish and dimensions. Because of that, bespoke and made-to-order pieces cannot be returned or refunded once the order is confirmed. Please take the time to see the finish first — your statutory rights in respect of faulty or misdescribed goods are unaffected.
