Microcement Freestanding Basin — Bronce

A freestanding cylinder basin, hand-finished in our own workshop. The cast solid surface core is coated in microcement, worked over with a textured Marmorino plaster and burnished with bronze metallic waxes, so the surface shifts between deep charcoal and warm antique bronze as light moves across it.

The bowl is finished in matt black, set against the bronze and charcoal of the outer column. Standing 870mm high on a 440mm diameter, it is designed to be seen from every side. Pair it with wall-mounted or floor-standing taps and it reads as a piece of furniture rather than sanitaryware.

Finished by hand, one at a time

Every basin in the Design Works Bespoke collection is finished to order. The plaster is trowelled on in layers and cut back by hand, then the bronze wax is worked into the texture and burnished. No two pieces carry the same distribution of colour or depth of texture. That variation is the character of the finish, not a flaw in it.

Specification

Cast dimensions are nominal and subject to a tolerance of plus or minus 3 per cent.

Installation

The basin is supplied with no tap holes and is intended for wall-mounted or floor-standing taps, specified separately. The waste aperture takes a standard 46mm unslotted waste; a waste is not included. Two fixing points in the base allow the basin to be secured to the floor, and we recommend it is fitted by a qualified installer with the plumbing set out before the basin is placed.

Delivery

Free delivery to UK mainland addresses is included in the price. This is a made-to-order piece; please allow 4 to 6 weeks from order confirmation. Delivery is kerbside or to a ground-floor room of choice by prior arrangement.

Care

Clean with a soft, damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring creams, bleach or limescale removers on any part of the basin. Rinse and dry the bowl after use, and avoid leaving standing water or soap residue on the outer surface. The wax layer can be refreshed periodically to maintain depth and sheen. Full care guidance is supplied with every basin.

Guarantee

Covered by a 10-year Design Works Bespoke guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of delivery, under normal domestic use. The guarantee does not cover damage caused by abrasive or chemical cleaners, impact damage, or the gradual wear of the wax layer, which is a maintenance item and can be refreshed.

Frequently asked questions

Does the basin come with a waste or taps?
No. The basin has a 46mm unslotted waste aperture and no tap holes, so both the waste and the taps are specified separately.

Is the finish waterproof?
The microcement and plaster exterior is sealed and waxed for bathroom use. It is not a surface for harsh chemicals or abrasives, and it should be cleaned as set out above.

Can I have a different colour or texture?
Yes. This is a bespoke finish, so alternative colourways and texture depths can be discussed. Please contact us before ordering.

Will my basin look exactly like the photographs?
No. Each piece is finished by hand and will vary in the pattern and distribution of the bronze wax.
