Legnovivo by Fioranese — oak in porcelain, and specifically aged oak that has been filled. The surface carries the grain, the brushing and the faint flame figure of a board that has been walked on and repaired, in four tones from a bleached white through to a dark brown.

The texture is deliberately medium and the fibre runs straight, which is what stops it looking like a photograph of a plank. Two long formats — a 25x149.7 and a 20.13x120.8 — give the proportions of real boards rather than the stubby tiles that give wood effect a bad name.

Colours

Bianco is a limed, near-white oak that keeps a room bright and suits a Scandinavian or coastal scheme. Chiaro is a natural pale oak, the most widely specified and the easiest to match to existing joinery. Naturale is a mid-honey oak with the clearest grain of the four. Moro is a deep smoked brown that grounds a room and works particularly well against pale walls.

Specification

  • Material: Porcelain stoneware, body-coloured (EN 14411:2012 Annex G Group BIa GL)
  • Thickness: 10mm
  • Shade variation: V3 — moderate variation in tone and grain from tile to tile, which is what makes a wood effect convincing
  • Finish: Naturale Rettificato (matt rectified)
  • Sizes: 25x149.7 and 20.13x120.8 rectified, plus a 6.5x60.4 battiscopa
  • Slip resistance: R10. DCOF wet ≥ 0.42, BCRA dry and wet > 0.40
  • Application: Internal floors and walls; light traffic. Suitable for underfloor heating, which is where porcelain beats real timber outright
  • Health: hypoallergenic surface, non-porous and free of harmful emissions
  • Durability: fireproof, colourfast and unaffected by UV
  • Sustainability: LEED® compliant, made in Italy

Laying a plank format

Both sizes are long and narrow, so they want laying in a staggered bond like a timber floor rather than a stack. Stagger the joints by at least a third of the tile length — a running half-bond on a 149.7cm plank puts every joint in a line and reads badly. Because the shade rating is V3, open several boxes at once and mix as you go, or you will get bands of light and dark across the floor. A narrow 2–3mm joint in a grout close to the tone keeps the surface reading as continuous boards.

Special trims

A 6.5x60.4 battiscopa is made in all four tones in the same matt rectified finish. Sold per piece, 24 to a box covering 14.496 linear metres. It gives you a skirting in the same material as the floor — useful in a wet room or utility, and it avoids the mismatch you get running a painted timber skirting against a wood-effect porcelain floor.

See it before you buy

Wood effect is the category where samples matter most, because the thing that betrays a poor one is the repeat — and you cannot see a repeat in a single photograph. It is also very easy to misjudge the undertone: Chiaro and Naturale look close on screen and clearly different in daylight next to oak joinery. Samples of all four tones are available to order, and the range is on display at our luxury interiors showroom in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, where you can lay a few planks out and see how the grain varies across them. Our team can help with quantities, setting out, trims and adhesive specification. Call 01782 617517 or email sales@homeofclay.co.uk for a quotation or to arrange a visit.
