Japan-Hibi is the most decorative tile in the collection. It keeps the raised metallic seams of Hibi and adds fragments of traditional Japanese pattern — scale, wave and seigaiha motifs — breaking across the concrete ground.

Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken ceramics with molten gold so the join becomes the most valuable part of the object. Fioranese have taken that idea onto porcelain — a soft, hand-worked concrete ground crossed by raised metallic seams that catch the light. The collection won the ADI Ceramics & Bathroom Design Award and was selected for the ADI Design Index, which for a tile range is unusual.

Twenty-four assorted faces per format and a V4 random rating mean no two tiles match at all. That is the point, but it does change how it should be specified.

Colours

Four tones, all in the 60.4x60.4. Japan-Hibi Moonlight and Japan-Hibi Fog keep the pattern quiet enough for a full floor. Japan-Hibi Storm and Japan-Hibi Darkness are considerably bolder — striking over a whole room, and worth seeing laid before committing.

Specification

  • Material: Porcelain stoneware, body-coloured (EN 14411:2012 Annex G Group BIa GL)

  • Application: Indoor floors and walls; suitable for underfloor heating
  • Slip resistance: R9. DCOF wet ≥ 0.42, BCRA dry and wet > 0.40 (plain base tiles)
  • Health: hypoallergenic surface, non-porous and free of harmful emissions
  • Durability: fireproof, colourfast and unaffected by UV
  • Sustainability: LEED® compliant, made in Italy

How to specify it

V4 means one tile can look entirely unlike the next, so Japan-Hibi works as a full field or a deliberate, contained panel — a cloakroom, a boot room, a band of floor under a run of glazing — rather than scattered a few tiles at a time through a plain floor, where it reads as a mistake. Dry-lay the whole area first and order in a single delivery so the assortment arrives complete.

The matching 7.5x60.4 battiscopa is listed with the plain Kintsugi tiles in Moonlight, Fog, Storm and Darkness, and works alongside this decor wherever the two are laid together.

See it before you buy

V4 random variation is close to impossible to represent in a product photo, since any single image shows you one face out of twenty-four. Samples are available to order, and the range is on display at our luxury interiors showroom in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
