Fio. Brick by Fioranese — a diamond-cut brick tile in a slim 7.3x30 format, in six matt colours. The bevelled edge is the point: it catches light along every course, so a wall of plain colour still has definition and shadow rather than reading flat.

Three of the six are neutrals and three are properly coloured. Fio. is Fioranese's design line, and Brick is the one built for combining — the collection is photographed with two colours on the same wall as often as one.

Colours

Artic White is a cool clean white. Greige Tale sits between grey and beige. Vague Grey is a soft mid grey. Those are the neutrals. Dusty Mauve is a muted pink-purple, Blueberry a deep inky blue and Sage Garden a greyed green — the three that carry the collection.

Walls only

Worth stating plainly: Brick is a wall tile. The diamond-cut bevel that gives it its character also makes it unsuitable underfoot. Pair it with a floor from elsewhere in the range — Fioranese photograph it against Schegge.

Combining colours

A 7.3x30 brick gives you a lot of courses per square metre, which makes it ideal for two-tone work: a band of Blueberry through a field of Greige Tale, or Dusty Mauve against Vague Grey, both of which Fioranese photograph. Because every colour shares one format the coursing runs straight through a colour change. Brick bond is the obvious layout; vertical stack lifts a low ceiling, and herringbone makes the bevel do more work.

See it before you buy

A bevelled edge is what separates this from a plain rectangle and it is exactly what a flat product photograph loses — the shadow line only appears with real light across it. Saturated colours are also unreliable on screen: Blueberry and Sage Garden are both deeper in reality than most monitors suggest. Samples of all six are available to order, and the range is on display at our luxury interiors showroom in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
