Fioranese Bits Terrazzo-Effect Porcelain Tiles

Bits by Fioranese — terrazzo, stripped back and made deliberate. The classic Venetian floor was a way of using up marble offcuts, and it usually looks like it: a dense, busy scatter. Bits does the opposite. The aggregate is reduced to small irregular fragments set sparsely into a plain ground, so the eye reads a calm surface first and the detail second.

The inserts sit into the surface rather than on it, which is what keeps it from looking printed. Across five colours and three square formats it works as a quiet whole-floor material that still has something to look at up close — a useful middle ground between a plain concrete effect and a full patterned tile.

Colours

Ivory is a warm off-white and the most forgiving, with the fragments reading as soft flecks. Greige sits between grey and beige and is the easiest to pair with timber. Grey is a clean mid grey, the most architectural of the five. Brick is a muted terracotta that brings real warmth to a kitchen. Black gives the sharpest contrast, with the inserts standing out as bright specks against a near-black ground.

Three square formats

All three sizes are square, which is unusual and quite deliberate — a square grid keeps the scattered inserts reading as random rather than lining up into rows. The 90.6x90.6 gives the fewest joints and lets the sparse pattern breathe across an open floor. The 60.4x60.4 is the workhorse and the best value per square metre. The 30.2x30.2 suits a small room, a shower floor or a wall, and concentrates the fragments into a busier surface. Because the aggregate is scattered rather than repeating, mix from several boxes as you lay so no one area ends up denser than the rest.

Special trims

A 7.5x60.4 battiscopa is made in all five colours in the same matt rectified finish. Sold per piece, it is the right detail where a timber skirting would be the weak point — wet rooms, utility runs and any floor that gets mopped. Allow roughly two pieces per 1.2m of wall, plus one per external corner.

See it before you buy

Bits is a subtle tile and product photography tends to work against it: shot flat and lit evenly, the sparse inserts either disappear or look like dirt. In a room, with light raking across the surface, the recessed fragments catch and the effect becomes obvious. The step between Ivory, Greige and Grey is also finer than it looks on screen.
