Microstone RTU Microcement Is Coming to Home of Clay
Something genuinely exciting is arriving at Home of Clay. We are delighted to announce that we will soon be stocking Microstone RTU, a premium ready-to-use waterproof microcement system that is set to transform the way homeowners, interior designers and installers approach surface finishing in the UK. Whether you are planning a bathroom renovation, a feature wall, a new kitchen worktop or a complete wet room installation, Microstone RTU offers a seamless, grout-free alternative to tiles that is as practical as it is beautiful. We will be bringing the full Microstone RTU system to our Newcastle-under-Lyme showroom in Staffordshire, and we want to hear from anyone interested in being among the first to experience it.

What is Microcement?
Microcement is a seamless surface coating applied by trowel that creates a continuous, grout-free finish across walls, floors, bathrooms, wet rooms, worktops and more. Unlike tiles, microcement has no joints or grout lines, creating a surface that flows uninterrupted from one area to the next. The result is a clean, architectural finish that has become one of the most sought-after looks in contemporary interior design.
Microcement can be applied directly over existing tiles, plaster, concrete and many other substrates, often without the need for removal or significant preparatory work. At just 2 to 3mm thick, it adds virtually no build-up to walls or floors, making it an ideal solution for renovation projects where keeping existing levels is important. It is highly durable, easy to clean and available in a wide range of colours and finishes, making it suitable for almost any room in the home.

The Three Types of Microcement and Why RTU is the Right Starting Point
Not all microcement is the same. There are three distinct types, each with different properties, application requirements and aesthetic outcomes, and understanding the differences is important when choosing the right product for your project.
Cement-based microcement is the traditional format and produces the most authentic, raw aesthetic. The cement content creates the characteristic natural tonal variation and depth of finish that most people associate with the microcement look. It requires greater skill to apply correctly and demands careful waterproofing, but the results at their best are exceptional. This is the professional installer's first choice for high-specification projects where the raw, organic character of the finish is central to the design intent.
Acrylic-based microcement -- which is what Microstone RTU is -- replaces the cement content with acrylic. This makes the product fully waterproof in its own right, significantly easier to apply and much more forgiving for those without specialist microcement experience. The acrylic base means the product comes pre-mixed and ready to use straight from the tub, with only the colour pigment to add. It is ideal for bathrooms, wet rooms and walls where waterproofing is essential and where a clean, contemporary finish is the priority.
Epoxy-based microcement replaces the cement content with epoxy resin, producing a surface of exceptional mechanical strength and wear resistance. This format is primarily used by professionals for commercial floors, high-traffic areas and specialist applications such as swimming pools, where durability and chemical resistance are paramount.
For homeowners, interior designers and renovation projects, acrylic RTU microcement is the natural starting point. It delivers a beautiful, seamless, fully waterproof finish that is accessible to a much wider audience than traditional cement-based systems, without requiring specialist tools, mixing expertise or extended application experience.
Introducing Microstone RTU
Microstone RTU is a premium waterproof acrylic microcement available in two finish variants: Smooth and Rustic. The Smooth finish delivers a refined, contemporary surface with a clean, even appearance. The Rustic finish introduces a more textured, artisanal character that reflects the organic quality of traditional microcement while retaining all the practical advantages of the acrylic-based system. Both finishes are fully waterproof and suitable for wall applications, with the system also applicable to residential floors and decorative surfaces.
What sets Microstone RTU apart from more complex microcement systems is its genuinely ready-to-use formulation. There is no mixing of components, no complex ratios to manage and no need for specialist application knowledge. The base paste comes pre-mixed and ready to apply. You simply add the Colour Concentrate for your chosen colour and apply. For homeowners tackling a bathroom renovation, a feature wall or a kitchen splashback, this removes the single biggest barrier to achieving a professional microcement finish.

18 Contemporary Colours
Microstone RTU is available in 18 carefully considered contemporary colours across two collections. The Contemporary Collection covers warm, earthy tones: White, Pearl, Stone, Bone, Beach, Light Brown, Terra, Nature Grey and Silver. The Grey Collection spans the full range of cooler, urban shades: Snow Grey, Pastel Grey, Pale Grey, Lava Grey, Light Grey, Silver Grey, Cement Grey, Night Grey and Black.
Colour is achieved using Microstone Colour Concentrates, which are blended into the pre-mixed base paste to produce a consistent, even colour across the finished surface. The full colour range will be available to view in our Newcastle-under-Lyme showroom, where our team will be on hand to help you select the right colour and finish for your project.
What is in the Microstone RTU System?
Microstone RTU is a complete, coordinated system. A full Microstone RTU Rustic Wall Kit contains everything needed for a complete wall installation and covers approximately 10m2 with two coats.
- Hydroprimer -- a water-based acrylic primer that seals and prepares the substrate, ensuring a strong and lasting bond between the surface and the microcement.
- RTU Microcement -- the ready-to-use acrylic microcement paste in 12kg tubs. Two coats are recommended for the best finish.
- Colour Concentrate -- high-strength pigment designed specifically for Microstone finishes, blended into the RTU paste to achieve the selected colour.
- Acryseal -- a two-component acrylic sealer that protects the microcement surface from dust, staining and surface damage, improving hardness and overall durability.
- Aquamax -- a water-based polyurethane topcoat varnish available in Matt, Satin or Gloss finishes, providing the final protective layer and determining the surface sheen level.
- Application Guide -- a step-by-step printed installation guide included with every kit.
Where Can Microstone RTU Be Used?
Microstone RTU is primarily recommended for wall applications, where it excels in bathrooms, wet rooms, shower enclosures, feature walls, kitchen splashbacks, utility rooms and decorative interior spaces. It can also be used on residential floors and decorative surfaces. As we build out the full Microstone range at Home of Clay, we will be introducing dedicated guidance and products covering walls, wet rooms and bathrooms, floors, worktops, outdoor surfaces and swimming pools, giving a comprehensive resource for anyone planning a microcement project of any scale.
